Transit Visa Of The United Arab Emirates

Gulf visa

There are two kinds of Transit visas:

  • One with a duration of 48 hours (it is free of charge)
  • Another with a period of 96 hours( with minimal fee)

Only UAE based airlines can sponsor a transit visa. A transit visa has to be processed and approved before you enter the UAE. Any type of transit visa is not extendable.

People for whom transit visa is suitable

People who:

  • Do not qualify for a visa on arrival
  • Do not qualify for a visa-free entry

Arranging a transit visa

Only a UAE based airline through which you are traveling can arrange a transit visa for you before your journey. If you are going to the UAE through an agency, the travel agency can also arrange a transit visa for you. However, all types of visas are routed through airlines. An airline agent applies for a visa through one of the following:

The validity of a transit visa

A Transit visa is issued for either 48 hours or 96 hours. However, once you decide to choose a 48 hours visa, you cannot request it to be extended to 96 hours. 

Transit visa for 48 hours

A Transit visa for 48 hours is free of charge to passengers who are transiting through the United Arab Emirates airports. You must apply for the visa before you transit through a UAE airline. This type of transit visa is not extendable. It is also not renewable. The validity of this visa is 48 hours from the time you enter the UAE. You must leave the UAE within the next 48 hours after your arrival.  

Requirements for a 48-hour Transit visa

  • Application form with complete and authentic information 
  • A photograph in color (6x6cm with a minimum of 600×600 pixels) and with white background (at least 80 percent of your face must be visible)
  • Colored copy of your passport showing your nationality, full name, place, and date of birth, date of issue and expiry, passport number, name of the father or legal guardian, and the name of your mother
  • A passport with validity up to 6 months at the time you travel. 
  • A confirmed ticket that shows that you will be traveling to Abu Dhabi Airport and from Abu Dhabi to a third destination that is not in the state from where you came to Abu Dhabi Airport

Requirements for Dependents

Dependents are defined as

  • A spouse
  • Parents above the age of 60
  • Children below the age of 18 

You will have to submit supporting documents as proof of the status of your relationship with the dependent. For instance, a birth certificate or a marriage certificate can be sent as proof. 

Children

In addition to the mandatory requirements listed above, you will have to submit a birth certificate for your child. It must be in Arabic or English. You must get the translated documents attested (on the front page).

Minors 

Children under the age of 18, including married females, are minors. Following are the additional requirements for a minor:

  • Photo ID of husband or parents
  • A Copy of one of the parent’s tourist visa that must be sponsored by Etihad Airways
  • The airline called Etihad Airways reserves the rights for sponsorships
  • Etihad Airways does not sponsor unaccompanied students and minors
  • Students and females under 18 should travel with their parents or guardians
  • Machine-readable passports are accepted only

Submitting a 48-hour transit visa application

You must submit all your documents inJPEG format, and they should not exceed 1 MB.

Additional documents

You may be asked for some other documents depending on your nationality. If you fail to provide all the required documents, your application will most likely be rejected. The visa fee is not refundable in any case. 

Transit visas for 96 hours

A transit visa for 96 hours is issued against a minimal fee to the people who wish to transit through the United Arab Emirates airports. You must apply for the visa before you transit through a UAE airline. This type of transit visa is not extendable. It is also not renewable. The validity of this visa is 96 hours from the time you enter the UAE. You must leave the UAE within the next 96 hours after your arrival.  

Important note

No additional fee can be charged by any local, federal, or private entity. However, a departure fee is imposed on all passengers
