A student visa is a kind of visa that is issued to students over the age of 18 years old and who are living in the UAE. Students who are exceptional in their studies can also get a visa of 5 years.

Long Term Visa for Exceptional Students

The UAE government approved to grant a Visa for five years to exceptional students on 24th November 2018. Eligibility criteria for this type of visa is:

  • A School Student Needs to Graduate With at least 95 percent Grade From a Secondary School( It Can Be A Private Or A Public School)
  • A University Student Needs To Graduate With A Distinctive 3.75 or Above GPA From Any University Outside or Within The State
  • Visa Benefits Include Families of The Exceptional Students
  • A Student Visa is For A College Or University Student Currently Studying in The UAE. The Student Must Be Atleast 18 Years Old.

Student Visa Key Requirements

To get this visa, a student first needs to get an official admission letter from the college or university where he is studying. For students who are older, a certificate specifying the continuation of studies is also required. Other requirements are:

  • A Sponsor For Visa( He/She Can Be A Relative, Parent, Or The University Itself)
  • The Student Must Pass The Medical Fitness Test
  • Approval From The Relevant GDRFA

Validity Of Student Visa

A student visa is given for a time of 12 months and is renewable for the same time if you provide official proof that you are continuing your studies. The student’s educational institute must issue that proof.

Provision Of Students Visa

Visa applicants can be sponsored by his/her relatives or parents who are already residents of the UAE. They can also be sponsored by accredited colleges or universities of the UAE. The relevant GDRFA processes these applications for visa issuance in each Emirate.

Colleges and Universities as Sponsors

Colleges and universities in the UAE can sponsor students residing in the UAE as well as international students. Students must study the terms and conditions that are listed in each college or university to understand the specific requirements for their admission and visa process.

However, if you get admitted to a UAE university, it does not guarantee that you will get a visa. Because the issuance of a visa has some additional requirements. These requirements include:

  • A Security Check
  • Passing A Medical Fitness Test
  • Approval of The Relevant GDRFA

UAE Expatriate Residence as Sponsors For A Student Visa

The law of the UAE does not allow its resident who is the national of another country to continue sponsoring their male child after he is 18 years of age. There is an Exception for male children who continue to study in UAE’s higher educational institutes or abroad. Therefore students who provide evidence of their attendance at higher educational institutes for at least a 1 years course can reside in UAE through the sponsorship of their parents. Expatriate residents are permitted to sponsor their female child regardless of her age. 

New Rules:

A rule implemented on 21st October 2018 stated that students who are graduates of secondary schools or universities or are 18 years of age would be granted a 1-year residency permit that is renewable for another 12 months from the graduation date or completing 18 years. For this kind of visa, parents are not needed to place bank deposits. For availing, this service parents must present attested graduation certificates from schools or universities abroad or inside the country
